Sense of coherence in first-time parents: a longitudinal study

Sense of Coherence, and especially the components Comprehensibility and Manageability, is found to be significantly lower in new first-time mothers than in fathers, in a sample of 820 parents at six months after birth of first child. This situation remained at four years later, but at eight years the difference could no longer be statistically secured. The midwife has a great task to support the mothers in their new role.
