The Childbirth Research Group has had intensive and creative work with support from Prof Cecily Begley. On Tuesday 21st October, the group met for a whole day of discussions on strategic planning for research. Prof Begley presented the compilation of research outputs achieved by the group in the five-year period 2010-2014. Final additions will be made to the table at the end of the year and the implementation of the next five-year strategic plan will then commence in January 2015. Two presentations were given on “Time Management” and “How to Increase your Publication Output”, which generated lots of discussion, planning and some new research teams. The researchers formed different groups and identified new publications to produce. The proposed study of a new model of care was also critiqued by the group, and changes made.
Wednesday 22nd October, Prof Begley met with five members of staff for individual meetings. She also gave a lunchtime presentation in Sahlgrenska Academy on “Challenges in Childbirth Research – Obesity, Caesarean Section and Postpartum Haemorrhage.”
On the final day of the visit, three members of staff/PhD students had individual meetings with Prof Begley. She then gave a two-hour presentation to obstetric and midwifery staff at SU Östra on “Preventing Postpartum Haemorrhage Using Expectant Care.”
